Adam Lambert says his new album reflects life after a breakup

Adam Lambert is returning to the spotlight with new music shaped by a personal reset.

The gay singer’s sixth studio album, Adam, draws on the emotional adjustment that followed the end of his long-term relationship. Lambert said the breakup pushed him to think about identity on his own terms after years of being part of a couple.

“I got out of a long relationship and when you're in a relationship, you identify as a couple. When you are single again, it's that readjustment of getting back to you. Who am I on my own? It's a bit of an identity check-in.”

He said that sense of recalibration runs through the album’s lyrics, which connect the relationship he left behind with the new ones he is navigating now.

Lambert split from his boyfriend in summer 2025 after four years together.

The record also marks a return to the sound many early fans associate with him. Tracks including “Eat U Alive” and “Under the Rhythm” lean into his darker pop style, and Lambert described the project as his most assertive to date.

“This is the best strutting album that I've ever made. This is either a runway or sidewalk situation. You'll feel fierce and ferocious with your headphones on. It makes you want to walk hard.”

Alongside the album, Lambert also used the interview to reflect on the state of LGBTQ+ community life. He said queer people should focus less on corporate symbolism and more on supporting one another directly.

“The sense of community has gotten a bit watered down. It's not because of anything terrible, it's because we've become so mainstream. Things were so normalized up until a couple years ago. We were making such amazing progress. Forget the big corporations and their rainbow flags they put up once a year. We need to build each other up and protect each other.”
